Permits are typically given to the individual at the time of application. The Sheriff has 14 days to issue or deny the permit. This permit is valid only in North Carolina and is valid for five years from the date of issuance. A Permit to Purchase does not in any way authorize you to carry a weapon concealed in public. If you should have to transport a weapon while in an automobile, unload it and lock it in the trunk. If you carry it under the seat, you could be charged with carrying a concealed weapon. Should you decide to sell or dispose of your handgun, you should require the purchaser to obtain a valid permit and remember, always keep your handguns stored out of the reach of children.

Pistol purchase permits are $5.00 to apply. You must have your driver’s license/ government ID with you when you apply and it must have your current address correct on it.
