How To Send Mail To An Inmate
I want to mail a letter to an inmate. What do I need to do?
Address:
Stokes County Jail
Atten: Inmate Name
P.O. Box 248
Danbury, NC 27016
If you are going to send an inmate mail, the only contents of the letter must be the letter itself and/or a money order (money orders are held for 10 days to clear the bank) (no cash). Nothing else may be mailed to an inmate or the letter may be returned to sender.
All pictures must be professionally printed. We will not allow an inmate to have any pictures printed from a home printer.
Only soft cover books may be mailed to an inmate and they must come directly from a professional company such as Amazon.
Nothing else can be mailed to an inmate such as colored pencils, crayons, stickers, or colored paper/ drawings due to the possibility of smuggling drugs into the jail.
The front of the letter must reflect the full name of the inmate to assure the letter gets to the right person.
The letter must have a return name and full mailing address.
Officers will examine all letters coming into the jail for potential contraband. Legal mail will not be read but will be checked for anything an inmate is not allowed to have. General mail may be read by officers prior to delivery. If the letter contains anything inappropriate or something that may compromise the security of the jail, the letter may be returned to sender. Nothing other than the letter itself is allowed to be mailed in.
